Heroes From Our Regiment's Past

Here you will see a series of articles about some of our more colourful and noteworthy characters from the Regiment's history, including all the way back to the War of 1812.

About the word 'Heroes': It should be noted that only some of our heroes are shown, but this does not suggest that many of the men who sacrificed their lives in battle should not be considered as heroes as well. Consider Beaumont-Hamel as an example; of all the heroics performed that day which we have since learned about, only two gallantry medals were awarded. This was the result of a deliberate decision by the Regiment to not single out so many who deserved recognition, because the Regiment as a whole performed so valiantly. Consequently, there were very few who were formally recognised as heroes by means of awarding gallantry medal awards.
